The smell of my dad's uniform after he came home from working a shift is something seared into my memory. His well worn, charred helmet is something that has the character from years of going in and out of fires. Just like it gave character to him. He will be missed. My thoughts are with him and all those who serve, may you always get home safe.

Remembering my father, Arthur DePew, who served as a captain in the FDNY and lost many good friends he worked with on this day. The fire department was his second family and he loved his job as very few people are lucky enough to. Ladder 34 pictured here was the last firehouse where he served. Thank you to all the firefighters and all those who daily put their lives on the line and a deep respect and profound sadness for all those who lost their lives on this tragic day.
